Biomass Boiler Installation for Mrs Jennings

Background

Mrs Jennings contacted us after she was looking on the MCS website for a local MCS accredited biomass installer. She had recently bought an old property that has stood empty for a number of years and was in desperate need of restoration. This property is solid stone with a large heat loss so required upgrades to the insulation before any heating measures could be installed.

Requirement

The requirement for this project was to heat this large building using sustainable logs that the customer had available. New pipework and radiators were required throughout and the boiler needed to be large enough to achieve the maximum heat loss of the property. A new pressurised hot water cylinder was also required to replace the old gravity system which was fed from an Arga.

Solution

It was agreed that we would install a Hargassner log biomass boiler into an outbuilding of the property along with the required buffer tanks and an unvented hot water storage cylinder. Hargassner is a market leading brand and all boilers are manufactured in Austria, the home of biomass. This boiler has a visual display to show fuel levels along with high efficiencies. As this is a renewable technology, the customer was entitled to a reduced rate vat and the governments RHI payments which were substantial for this size of building. As the property is off the gas grid and in a remote area, biomass was the perfect option and attracted large fuel savings compared to oil or LPG.
