Solar PV and Battery Storage Installation for Mr Wolfindale

Background

Mr Wolfindale has previously had a Solar PV system installed; however, this was underperforming, and an issue was apparent. We were contacted to investigate the problem and also assess whether there were ways to improve the amount of self-consumption from the solar production.

Requirement

We were required to analyse the existing Solar PV data initially so the fault could be remotely located. It was clear that a SolarEdge optimiser was faulty and not resulting in the levels of generation expected from one of the panels. Therefore, a new optimiser needed to be obtained under warranty and access equipment needed to be erected to access the roof so that the underperforming panel could be removed.

Solution

The faulty optimiser was replaced and reconfigured. This fixed the problem immediately and increased the overall system production. A LG Chem battery was then proposed as this DC storage solution was compatible with the SolarEdge system to allow full integration and would allow for the surplus energy produced to be stored rather than exported so this could be used within the property during hours of darkness.
