Mr Slack, Ground Source Heat Pump

A ground source heat pump installation to provide ultimate efficiencies for this self-build project.

Ground Source Heat Pump Installation for Mr Slack

Background

Mr Slack first contacted us due to a recommendation from a building contractor whom we have work closely with for a number of years. He was in the process of starting a local self-build development which involved demolishing an existing derelict property and erecting a new building which still compromised of the traditional characteristics to integrate into the local surroundings.

Requirement

This property was going to be a completely new build development; therefore, the insulation u-values were high due to the customer wanting to minimise his overall energy consumption. The main requirement was to ensure the system proposed was as efficient as possible and that it did not compromise the external appearance of the property.

Solution

We proposed that a ground source heat pump would be the ideal solution to meet the needs of high efficiencies all year around. Although a GSHP requires more internal space for the necessary equipment, a small plant room was available, so space was no issue. As all of the visible GSHP equipment is located internally, there would be no impact to the exterior.

There was limited land available, so this resulted in boreholes being drilled at over 100m deep for the ground source collector pipework. Internally we designed and installed an UFH system throughout all three floors of the property which complimented the low flow temperatures provided by an GSHP and increased efficiencies further. Each room was zoned so these could be controlled independently, providing ultimate comfort in each area.
