This year has seen an rise in customers enquiring about Heat Pumps and, after getting the best advice from our team of experts, following through to installation. A heat pump is an electrical device that extracts heat from one place and transfers it to another. This heat can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor or warm air heating systems and hot water in your home.

Is there more than one type of Heat Pump?

Yes, there are two main types of heat pump:

  • Air Source Heat Pump
An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from its inside.
  • Ground Source Heat Pump
A ground source heat pump operates by circulating a mixture of water and antifreeze around a loop of pipe which is buried in your garden. Heat from the ground is then absorbed into the fluid and then passes through a heat exchanger into heat pump.

But, is it right for me?

Heat pumps are extremely efficient and can operate at 360% efficiency. This means that for every £1 spent on electricity you will receive £3.60 worth of heat!
Heat pumps can have a lifespan of up to 25 years with minimal maintenance
Unlike gas and oil boilers, heat pumps deliver heat at lower temperatures over much longer periods.

So, are any initiatives available?

Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) funding is available whereby cash payments are made quarterly – over a seven year period for a domestic property and over twenty years for a non-domestic premises – to contribute towards the cost of installation.
