Mr Parker made contact with us as he was looking for a solution to combine multiple renewable technologies together to create a virtually carbon neutral home.
The first part of the project was to come up with a design that would integrate all of these technologies in a single system to both work together and complement each other. We came up with a system design that combines the customers own wood pellet boiler stove, a biomass pellet boiler, solar PV panels, solar thermal evacuated tubes, a gas boiler, Unvented hot water cylinder and a pool heater all together.
We did this via the installation of a 1000l buffer tank into his garage with a coil which the 60 solar thermal tubes were fed into, contributing towards the total household demand. The biomass pellet stove and boiler also supplied heat to this buffer tank.
We then installed a 3 fold PAW manifold pump station to pump the primary water around the radiator circuits, to the pool heater and to the new unvented pressurised hot water cylinder. We fitted a low loss header to the bottom of this pump station which the buffer was connected to and also the existing gas boiler so this could be used as a backup if the pellets ever ran out whist the customer was working away. A smart control system then operated the full system utilising weather compensation.
A 4KW solar PV system was also installed to help with electrical costs as well as an immersun to divert surplus energy generated by the solar panels to the immersion heater on the unvented hot water store to provide hot water FREE from the sun.
The customer is able to claim both the governments RHI and FIT for the biomass and solar PV systems whilst also generating considerable fuel savings on his gas and electric bills. The systems also future proof him from any large inflation of fossil fuel prices and add value to his property.
